Claudio, a member of the Thieves' Guild of Rome, was captured by the Followers of Romulus.Ezio was required to kill Lucrezia in order to free Caterina, instead of capturing her.Lucrezia and Caterina were located in Florence, as opposed to the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome.The story of the game shares similarities to the story of the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, aside from a few exceptions: After a fierce battle, Ezio kills Cesare, obtains the Apple of Eden and hides it in the Colosseum.
After a brief fight, Cesare attempts to escape, but Ezio gives chase and catches him after Cesare is tired. With the help of other Assassins, he kills several more Templars, including a banker associated with the Borgias, Baron Octavien de Valois and Michelotto before finally confronting Cesare on the Colosseum. Ezio is then informed by Niccoló that Caterina Sforza has been kidnapped by the Borgias, and obtains the key to her cell after killing Lucrezia Borgia. After he kills Romulus, frees Claudio, and escapes using Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine. He seeks help from Niccolò Machiavelli and the Thieves' Guild of Rome they ask him to free Claudio, a member of the Thieves' Guild, from the Followers of Romulus. After Cesare Borgia attacks his residence and steals the Apple of Eden, Ezio Auditore da Firenze sets out to kill him and end the Templars' menace in Italy.
